"I have never willingly shared copyrighted material. I am only guilty of downloading mp3s to have the opportunity to preview the content of an album before I give up my hard-earned money for a physical copy of it in the store.
This has only become necessary since you decided to encourage the mass production of mediocre content. Yes, you are directly responsible for artists putting out half-assed, over-priced CDs and 35-minute CDs at full price (instead of 74-80 minutes which a regular CD is capable of holding and a regular CD player is capable of playing).
Previewing the album is to ensure the product I'm buying is actually worth my money and I am not being deceived by the one hit song from the album being whored on the radio 24-7 that appeals to me. Too often of late I've purchased an album to find only two or three of the 10-12 tracks on it are actually enjoyable, and generally one of them is the hit song that gets all the airplay.
This has occured because artists are pressured to release more albums and more songs more frequently because the majority of the profit their albums generate is taken by you before it can ever reach them. Clearly not every song they put on the album will be of top quality because they are being forced to produce "filler" tracks in order to make a living. So thank yourselves for the popularity of mp3s and the "trying before buying" mentality most music listeners are taking when it comes to new music.
Don't even get me started on the promise-turned-lie that was heralded in the 1980s about how CDs would be much cheaper than cassettes when they became the popular medium for audio content. Tell that to my $18.99 CD and my $6.99 cassette."
Remember: FILE SHARING OF COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL IS ILLEGAL; don't do it.
